Design and Specification | Healthcare

Electrio was proud to be selected by Vanguard Medical a specialist modular building supplier ,to work as part of an international team developing a sophisticated modern day surgery unit at the Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, Wales.

Work included the design and installation of a new main distribution panel, sub-main distribution and generator as well as a PV (photovoltaic system) to supply power for:

  • 2 state of art theatres
  • stage 1 and 2 recovery units
  • ward area
  • ancillary rooms
  • staff facilities to service the unit

The unit is fed by a dedicated HV (high voltage) supply with the LV side feeding into a new LV panel complete with a generator backup supply as well, the LV panel was designed by Knight Switch Gear Services and the Generators by Power Electrics which are all integrated into to our LV network. From the LV panel it is distributed to a number of bespoke MCCB panel boards located in the roof plant room area, as well as local distribution boards. A full UPS (uninterruptible power suppy) and IPS (isolated power supply) system was also incorporated to meet the units Full requirements HTM requirements.

Pulling out the stops to meet damanding deadlines

Electrio specified and designed a steel containment system with 6491B cables to meet the demands of what would be a very busy day surgery unit and the installation was designed to meet specific HTM* standards. Our dedicated team of experienced electricians worked 7 day weeks over a 10 week period, with extended hours each day, to ensure that the demanding deadlines of the project were met.

“I was very impressed with the dedication and commitment of your staff when carrying out the works to a very high standard in very difficult circumstances i.e. reduced working period, additional works and having to work out of sequence to facilitate other trades. I can only thank you again and ask that you pass this on to all of your team. I do not know how you managed to achieve it, but you did.”
