Victoria Methodist Church

LED Lighting | Commercial

The Challenge

The refurbishment of Victoria Church was an exciting project to take on, their brief was to illuminate the Sanctuary and Narthex with the reference to the altar, Rose Window and organ, as well as providing full control via iPads to highlight the rest of the Victorian architecture.

The Solution

With the height of the Sanctuary roof at 13 metres, access was a particular problem. In order to access the intended roof space we had the option of a surface install or had to find a way through the void. With careful planning and some skilled work by the carpenters, we were able to remove the oak ceiling panels and create a cable route through the void to supply all the feed points required.

The Church was being brought into the modern age with the installation of a Cat6 network and an AV system, which would rival many concert halls! The cabling routes and outlets had to be installed sympathetically within the existing structure to provide maximum coverage of the outlets, yet not be obtrusive. With intelligent planning and close consultation with the designers and client, our team of electricians was able to install the services for the IT and AV network within the building structure without compromising the aesthetics of the building.

During the installation we also updated the main distribution boards within the basement area, and added controls for the AV and IT network. Within the room a KNX control panel was installed to allow all the lighting, whether it was DALI, 1-10V or DMX to be interfaced with the AV & Fire Alarm system.

The KNX system has been programmed to provide set scene selections via the push to make switches (fitted with KNX Binary Input Modules) in the Sanctuary for the control of the lighting. The lighting, AV & heating system have all been integrated through the KNX system via an interface to the iPads, along with an Apple iPad Air to provide the wireless network.

Following this refurbishment, Victoria Methodist Church now has a flexible system which can be re-programmed to suit any scene, plus they have full control of the heating system either via the iPads or remotely via an app.
